What is BRE-WIN?

RealBroker for windows will be the next major release of the Boran-RE program. Aimed at Windows 95/98 it will be a fully 32 bit, windowed, multi-user, multi-tasking, multi-threading program. Like the current DOS version of Boran-RE, RealBroker will record and track listings with as much or as little detail as desired. It handles sales from offer to payout, calculating commissions and fees, notifying agents of important dates, tracking the trust/escrow monies, and finally writing the receipts and cheques. The accounting is simple enough to be handled by someone with only basic bookkeeping knowledge, with options and reports that can keep even full fledged accountants happy. Many of the data entry screens will closely resemble the current DOS version, not just to reduce programming overhead, but to help reduce the culture shock as users of the current program upgrade. Whenever possible the new program will take advantage of the more advanced operating system and GUI features. The final product should balance the look and feel of a Windows 95 program with the familiarity of the old Boran-RE for DOS program. RealBroker will allow any number of windows to be opened simultaneously to allow users to view multiple listings and deals at the same time, to compare various reports on screen, or to make entries while viewing relevant reports. The data files will begin a shift away from the proprietary formats used in the DOS program towards a standardized database format using Paradox 7 files. The second release of RealBroker should complete the database conversion. The speed and indexing capabilities or Paradox 7 files should allow even large databases to run comfortably fast. Certainly it will be considerably faster than the current program. Boran-RE for windows is currently being developed in Delphi 4.0. It should run on any machine with Windows 95 or Windows NT. Peer-to-peer networking should provide adequate performance for a small number of workstations. Users on larger networks may want to use a dedicated server.
